SpEdDoc 7.3 Released

SpEdDoc 7.3 has been released. The BRSU server was upgraded to this new version on Sunday, 1/4/09 at a 8:30 a.m.

New features include:

This update incorporates the new Form 6a: Consent for Initial Provision of Special Education Services. This form is effective December 31, 2008.
The update also includes:
• A new IEP Status list (access from Student and IEP Main Menus). Use to determine that some required fields have been entered in IEP's.
• A new Find Student screen in IEP and other documents to conduct customized finds that include fields from Student and the current area. See the new SpEdDoc 7 Find Guide for details (download under the Software link at www.speddoc.org).
• Expanded Preferences to customize the way SpEdDoc works for your organization. See summary below, or refer to the latest edition of the illustrated SpEdDoc Administration Guide available for download under the Software link at www.speddoc.org.

Preferences
SpEdDoc preferences can be accessed from the Prefs tab in Begin after first logging in with the layouts account. These settings pertain to all users for server installations, so should be set by the database administrator.

List View Date Checking:
Hide is the default to promote faster performance. If set to Show, then plan and evaluation due dates will be calculated whenever Student List View is accessed by users, e.g., when the Go Students button in Begin is selected. If set to Hide, then the user will only see due dates in Student List View by clicking the Show Due Dates button on that screen. Hide offers better performance (since it doesn’t take the time to calculate all the due dates), while Show consistently alerts users to plans and evaluations that are coming due.

Statistics on Open:
Hide is the default to promote faster performance. If set to Show, then clicking the Go Students button in Begin will popup a dialog box summarizing how many plan and evaluation dates are due or overdue.

Goal Bank Locking:
Custom is the default, permitting users to selectively lock goals and objectives by clicking a checkbox to the right of each record. Lock All will lock all the records, regardless of whether the boxes are checked, while Unlock All will unlock all the records regardless of whether the boxes are checked.
Locking only pertains to the user account. Even with that account, the Author can continue to edit locked goals and objectives (i.e., if the Author of the record matches the CM Name of the person who logged in).
The database administrator can adjust the Goal Bank Locking feature as follows:
Log into SpEdDoc with the layouts account.
At the Begin screen, click on the Prefs tab.
In the Goal Bank Locking field, select one of the following:
Custom (checked records are locked for the user account).
Lock All (all records are locked for the user account).
Unlock All (all records are unlocked).

Rubric Bank Locking:
Rubrics can be locked in much the same way as goals and objectives, using the check box to the right of each row.

Transition:
If you require that transition goals be entered on the Goals page (for student’s of transition age), then set this preference to Yes. This will cause IEP’s to be flagged if the Transition box is not checked for any goals (red balloon on top of Transition page and on IEP Status list accessed from Student Main Menu).
Set this preference to No if your practice is to enter transition goals directly on the transition page.
